When I ‘ran away’ to Africa to escape a frustrating job in Melbourne, I felt I could endure anything for a year – the term of my contract as a UN technical specialist in Kenya.
Four years later, circumstances forced me to leave. It was a wrench.
Africa changed my life completely. It fired up a passion in me to tell its many stories, and in so doing to realise an ambition to write – an ambition I had suppressed for thirty years as I raised a family and paid the mortgage. When my first novel was published I happily gave up the day job.
Africa not only inspired me, it introduced me to the excitement and the characters that populate my pages.
